Will Sarah Palin Run in 2012?

While there have been a couple of Presidential bid announcements made in the last couple of weeks, but most of the speculation is around the non-announcements from Sarah Palin. Recently she said she had the “fire in her belly“, and was also rumored to have purchased property in Arizona where her campaign would be run out of. Sarah Palin has been considered a spiritual leader for the Tea Party movement, well known Republican figures like Karl Rove wonder if she is good for the party. Certainly her being a candidate would add some spice to what seems to otherwise be a dull 2012 campaign.

Supreme Court Rules in Favor of Arizona Anti-Illegal Hiring Laws

This could certainly be the start of a significant story, and the end perhaps of one step in the debate on illegal aliens in the US. in 2007, Arizona passed a law that required all licensed businesses in the state to confirm employees were legal to work in the US. Civil rights and other groups protested, saying that immigration is a Federal and not State area of control. But the Supreme Court, lead by conservative Justice John Roberts, agreed with the state, as they felt they had followed the Federal guidelines well and crafted a law that is acceptable. Plenty of coverage here, from the LA Times (who call the law a “death penalty” for buisnesses that hire illegal aliens), story from CNN, and a sort of op-ed piece form All Voices here. Many more people are waiting to see how this plays with Arizona’s get tough on illegals laws which allow police broad powers to stop suspected illegal aliens.

Surprising news out of New York this morning as CNBC Business Channel anchor Mark Haines passed suddenly at home last night, he was 65. Mark Haines was one of the original anchors for CNBC, starting back in 1989, and his off the cuff style and willingness to ask the difficult and sometimes less than subtle questions got him quite a following. A good report from sister station MSNBC here on video. Some background from MarketWatch here. On the CNBC Site, there have this article that gives a fair bit of background. The result today is that CNBC as a station is in mourning, as Mark Haines set the tone for the entire place, and really has touched everyone that worked with him

Mark Haines will be missed. RIP!

Did Schwarzenegger Father Out Of Wedlock Child?

This is certainly the story most like to get talked about today. Arnold Schwarzenegger, the actor, former Muscle Man, former Governor of California, and soon to be former husband of Maria Shriver may be in a whole heap of trouble after revelations that he may have fathered a child out of wedlock with a former employee. It’s a big story, because it hits both the celeb world (TMZ story here), and also the political world. The story was original broken by the LA Times, read it here.. More spin on this one from E! Online, The Guardian, and CNN

There is plenty of coverage in the media this morning of US Senator Ron Paul announcing that he will try to be the Republican Presidential candidate for 2012. This is his third run at the spot, but many seem to feel that this may be his time. Ron Paul has been called the spiritual leader of the Tea Party movement in the US, and with that movement apparently currently very powerful within the Republican party, many think that he has a good shot at getting the nod. Plenty of coverage, including this interesting NY Times blog about the topic. Coverage on this comes from CBS News, ABC News, and even Canada’s National Post.

Hollywood Herpes Lawsuit

One of the more amusing stories of this week has been the lawsuit filed by an unnamed person (confidental name) suing an “unnamed A-List celebrity” for giving them herpes. Basically, they met up in Las Vegas, spent a night of “”mutual oral copulation, mutual self-gratification, rubbing and massaging each other, play-wrestling, licking and (unprotected) intercourse”. During this session, the person apparently contracted herpes. They are suing for $20 million. If the story stopped there, it would be wild enough, but TMZ.com has learned that there is also apparently a significant sex tape made of these sessions, and now porn tube and video websites are offering well past $1 million for the tapes.
